Certamen is a quiz-bowl style game for you to test your knowledge of the Latin language and classical civilizations. Competitions are structured with various levels: Novice (Latin I), Intermediate (Latin II), and Advanced (Latin III+), and you can compete on a Competitive (more fast-paced) or Open/Amateur (more chill and relaxed) team. Certamen competitions are held all over the state and you get to meet people from all different schools and parts of the JCL!
Many of the certamina for this year will be held virtually. Here is the schedule for the 2020-2021 season:
October 24, 2020: Virtual VJCL Kickoff Certamen
November 21-22, 2020: Street Certamen at Virtual VJCL Convention
December 1-12, 2020: NJCL “Quarantamen” - a national virtual certamen for Novice and Intermediate players only
January 9. 2021: Flint Hill Certamen
February 27, 2021: Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technology Certamen
Spring 2021: Hayfield Street Certamen
April 24, 2021: State Finals Certamen
